Thank you Your prayers and support have been such a help to me.
After I sent that previous message, I thought of another instance in which
my Russell illustrated this days Gospel. I shared it with another list on
which I participate and thought I would share it with you as well.

When we were children and were sent to an all white area of the city, our
blind and sight saving classes were the first to integrate this particular
middle school on the southeast side of our city. He and the other black
children were besieged every day by groups of white children seeking to
fight with them. They had to walk home taking public transport each day in
that atmosphere of constantly being either beaten or being afraid of being
beaten because of their color. This stopped, when a big black man who
looked as though he could have boxed for a living who taught our sight
saving class came out to the bus stop where the classes were waiting and,
seeing this, said if they touched one of those blind children they would
have to fight him first. At that point the intimidation stopped. Even
after that, my Russell said nothing mean about those children who caused him
such anxiety. As I said at the funeral, even after he was stabbed in 93 he
paraphrased these words. That is what made him such a beautiful person. We
need more like him in this world. If we had such the world would be a far
better place. Gospel for June 20, 2006
