My story is one which has been heard before on this list so I
won't go into as much detail.

A little over six years ago, Sandy had a growth removed from
her arm. It was diagnosed as a malignant melanoma. A few days
before her doctor's appointment, I was sitting in my rocking chair
in my office when I heard the Lord clearly say, "Your wife has
cancer but they will get it all the first time." No, it was not
an audible voice but it sure felt like it was at the time. I
never told Sandy but I kept trying to get her to allow me to go
with her to the dermatologist. She kept saying no because there
wasn't anything to it.

Sandy had a followup test which allows them to locate the
nearest lymph node. this was to determine if the cancer had
spread to the lymphatic system. If it had gone that far, she
would have maybe a year to live. No lymph nodes have been reached
by the deadliest and most quick reacting cancer.

We went to the Oncologist; the cancer specialist. He
recommended interferon shots because the cancer was 1 millimeter
deeper than they like to see. I believe he said it was 31
millimeters deep. If it would have been thirty, he would not have
recommended any treatment of any kind. Sandy felt she should get
everything that was available and believe me, until a person is
faced with a life and death decision, nobody knows what they will
do. The three a week interferon shots Sandy gave herself makes
you feel as if you are sick with the flue a good 6 days out of
every seven. She was on the interferon injections for 12 months.
After treatments, all of her blood tests, over the last five
years, showed everything was returning to normal.

The experience of going to the cancer specialist was
something I find, to this day, difficult to describe. I knew what
God had said and never once doubted it. Not once. Yes, at times
I let my mind wonder and tried to feel what it would be like to
live without Sandy. Yes, I cried when I had such thoughts because
I could not remotely guess what it would be like. I still was not
in doubt or unbelief. I don't know how but it had to have been
God's grace that kept me from doubting His Word.

The doctor's words were nothing more than a report of
percentages, facts and figures, calculations, comparisons, and
statistical data relating to melanoma specific to my wife's case.
He did, nor said, anything wrong; he simply reported the facts as
he knew them to be based upon his experience and degree of
training in the field. His words pounded at me, however, as if I
was being beat to death by invisible baseball bats. I have never
felt, until that time anyhow, the hardness and weightiness of just
words. It was a lesson, however, on just how powerful words can
be.

Phil.
