Speaking of fires in the oven:  I remember one time when one of our kids
got my oven mits soaked.  I decided to pop them in to the oven to dry
them out.  We have a gas stove and I figured that the little heat from
the pilot light would do the trick.  Unfortunately, I forgot about them
and popped something into the oven to bake the next day.  About a half
hour into the cooking, smoke began pouring from the oven.  You guessed
it, the mits were on fire.  Oh man!  And those smoke detectors are so
loud and annoying!
