Are you a young person with a disability aged 18 - 24, or do you know
someone who is? Join us for an international exchange program to Japan.
Generous partial scholarships available.

Mobility International USA (MIUSA) is currently seeking young people with
disabilities from diverse cultural backgrounds to apply for an upcoming
three-week international exchange program in Japan in July/August 2004.

Join us on an exchange program to Japan
The focus of US/Japan Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability Exchange
Program is “Leadership through international volunteerism and cultural
exchange.” Participants will take part in workshops on disability rights and
leadership, explore Tokyo and the surrounding area, participate in a 4-day
volunteer service project, and experience Japanese customs, food and culture
with members of the local community. American Sign Language interpretation
and materials in alternative formats will be provided. Individuals from
cultural minority backgrounds and inexperienced international travelers are
encouraged to apply.

Program details
When: late July-early August 2004

Where: 1-day orientation in US departure city followed by 17-day program in
Japan

Cost: $850 (includes international airfare from orientation city in the US,
lodging, homestays, meals and activities)

Scholarships: Generous partial scholarships available to qualified
applicants.

Application deadline: March 15, 2004. Late applications considered as space
permits.

Activities
If selected, you will join 11 other participants from the US and MIUSA
Exchange staff to strengthen cross-cultural ties and develop leadership
skills in an exciting international environment. Participants will take part
in workshops on disability rights and leadership, explore Tokyo and the
surrounding area, participate in a 4-day volunteer service project and
experience Japanese customs, food and culture with members of the local
community.

About the New York Community Trust DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment
Fund
The US/Japan Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Disability Exchange Program is
funded by The New York Community Trust DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel
Enrichment Fund, established in Community Funds by the co-founder of The
Reader's Digest Association. For the past ten years, MIUSA has received the
generous support of the DeWitt Wallace/Youth Travel Enrichment Fund,
established by the founder of The Reader's Digest Association, to provide an
educational travel opportunity to young adults with disabilities from
diverse communities. Thus far, these 18-day programs have taken place in
Mexico, Costa Rica and England. Click here to read personal stories written
