Augmentative Communication Devices in the Workplace
Tech Connections audio conference
December 11, 2002
2:30 - 4:00 P.M. (EST)

Tech Connections' continuing series of audio conferences offers
training opportunities on Assistive Technology for vocational
rehabilitation professionals and the individuals they serve.
Audio Conferencing is a telephone conference call, which brings
experts to your doorstep without the high cost of travel.
Groups listen by speakerphone, web-based real-time captioning
and engage in interactive dialogue with experts from around the
nation.

Join us as we explore the use of Augmentative and Alternative
Communication (AAC) devices in the work environment.
Participants will have an opportunity to hear from Assistive
Technology Specialists in this field as they share their
knowledge on issues related to AAC and employment.

This session will cover:
* AAC devices and their applications in the workplace;
* Considerations specific to the work environment;
* Training needs of the AAC user;
* The influence of AAC use in the work environment; and
* Strategies to build employer support.

We will identify strategic methods to address these issues via
fact sheets, case studies, and a question and answer period.

Invited speakers:
* David McNaughton, PhD, Pennsylvania State University
* Linda Meyer, PhD, CCC-SLP, Woodrow Wilson Rehab. Center
* Carrie Bruce, M.A., CCC-SLP, ATP, Georgia Tech's CATEA
* Jennifer Lowe, Executive Director, SHOUT

Participants can expect:
* Interactive discussion between knowledgeable speakers and
  moderator
* Easily downloadable web-based handouts in various formats
* Web-based Real-Time captioning
* Q & A period
* CRC credits for audio conference and post-conference
  discussion forum
* Registration and handouts distribution via web and email

Who should participate?
Tech Connection's training opportunities are design for
vocational rehabilitation counselors and others interested in
assistive technology and how to accommodate persons with
disabilities in the workplace. This can include university
educators and students, occupational therapists,
AT practitioners, special education teachers, employers, and
individuals with disabilities.

Registration and costs involved:
You can participate in this audio conference right in your own
office or meeting space by using your telephone and dialing a
toll-free number (provided with registration materials). Arrange
for an accessible conference room or meeting space large enough
to accommodate your participants and have a speaker telephone
available. To use the web-based real-time captioning, have a
computer available with Internet access. Download materials
