Providing Accessible IT Requires Campus-wide Support
This is the clear statement of the Office for Civil Rights of the
Department of Education. Accessible IT is analagous to providing physical
ramps to buildings

In the beginning, everyone said providing ramps was too costly and would
only be used by a few people. Now, everyone takes this requirement for
granted and also finds that it is very helpful for many faculty who have no
physical disability. One day, providing accessible information technology
will also be taken for granted.

Starting Dec. 6, EASI will teach its online course:
Barrier-free Information Technology. The syllabus and online registration
is at:
http://easi.cc/workshops/adaptit.htm

This course is ideal for computer support staff, instructional design
staff, faculty, librarians, department heads and other administrators,
disabled student service staff, ADA officers and more.

Today's distributed computer environment means that providing support for
the technology needs of students and professionals with disabilities is an
global responsibility. It requires extensive planning and cooperation
across several departments. "If it takes a village to raise a child, then,
it takes the
global commitment to support the adaptive technology needs of students and
professionals with disabilities.

Five of EASI online courses earn the Certificate in Accessible Information
Technology.
