Who should attend?
Employers, procurement officers, web designers, librarians, higher
education faculty, school district technology coordinators, information
officers, computer lab supervisors, and others interested in policy and
practicalities regarding access to electronic and information technology
for individuals with disabilities.

Electronic and information technologies, including telecommunications and
the World Wide Web, play an increasing role in today's society. Yet, if
these technologies are not "done right", even assistive technologies will
be insufficient. Pennsylvania's Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT)
is conducting this conference as a part of the overall goal of improving
access to assistive technology for Pennsylvanians with disabilities and
older Pennsylvanians. Doing "IT" Right is a part of the statewide
celebration of Assistive Technology Awareness Month 2001. This conference
is dedicated in memory of Dr. Leonard Ralph Kasday, a pioneer in web
accessibility for people with disabilities. The annual Assistive
Technology Achievement Awards Luncheon will be a highlight of the second
day of the conference.

Goals of the conference Participants will:
(1) learn about universal design and issues related to accommodating
persons with disabilities in Information Technology (IT), including
electronic office equipment and computer hardware, software and Internet
access.
(2) increase understanding of applicable laws, standards, and state
policies pertaining to electronic access (e.g. Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act; Executive Order on Web Accessibility).
(3) gain awareness of tools and resources for improved access to IT
(including the use of IT in education / higher ed settings) through
universal design and the application of assistive technologies.

The conference will be held at:
The Crowne Plaza Hotel Harrisburg
23 South Second Street Harrisburg, PA
Tel: 717-234-5021
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Harrisburg bus and train

the second day, and resource materials. Registration for one day only is
$100. A check or money order payable to "Temple University" must accompany
