I don't own Word at this time.  Instead, I tried to see what I could get
out of WordPerfect 11 reading the file, and using Window-Eyes 4.5.
WordPerfect doesn't have an obvious way to get the text out.  Even saving
as HTML or XML doesn't work.  There appears to be one graphic.  WP calls it
a text box.  There wasn't an obvious way, once you double-clicked on the
text box, to edit its properties and therefore extract the text.  Editing
images, even in Word, isn't something which blind people are doing very
much, so it may not be common knowledge  how to use Word's functions to
access the properties of an image.  I think that although the alt text is
not being read automatically, it may be possible for a Word user to get at it.
