Knowbility (http://www.knowbility.org) is a nationally-recognized nonprofit
organization based in Austin, Texas that works to address the Digital Divide
regarding people with disabilities' access to tech, tech careers and tech
education.

A heads up that accessibility will be a featured topic for 2003 SXSW
Interactive Media Festival in Austin, and Knowbility will be taking a lead
role in events -- read more at:
http://2002.sxsw.com/interactive/tech_report/sharron_rush.php (I just love
the photo).

ALSO, Knowbility just wrapped up its fifth annual Accessibility Internet
Rally in Austin. As many of you know already, I think this is the best event
ever for bringing together corporate volunteers and nonprofit organizations
-- in addition to learning about accessibility and participating in a really
fun event, the corporations come away with a much greater understanding of
what it is nonprofit organizations do and why they are vital to communities.
And viewing the resulting web sites is an excellent way to learn just how
innovative and eye-catching accessible web sites can be (contrary to those
who complain that accessible web site design is a barrier to creativity --
BAH). See more about the event, the teams, and the resulting web sites:
http://www.knowbility.org/AIR-Austin/

Finally, Knowbility Executive Director Sharron Rush and Dr. John Slatin of
the University of Texas have just released a book on how to build accessible
Web sites and why it is increasingly important. You can read more about it
at http://www.knowbility.org
