Summer College Transition Academy in Computing

July 9 - August 6, 2006
Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
Gallaudet University
Washington, DC, 20002

Program Goals. To increase deaf and hard of hearing students interest in
computing and to prepare them for college studies in computing fields.

Structure of the Program. Lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and field
trips.

What are the costs? Travel between an airport in the Washington, D.C. area and
Gallaudet, room, board, field trips, and activities are covered by an
AccessComputing grant from the National Science Foundation. The
participant/family is responsible for funding and arranging transportation
between his/her home and the Gallaudet campus or local airport in Washington,
D.C. Those with a financial need can submit a letter of request for the grant
to cover some of the travel expenses for which the participant/family is
responsible.

Who should apply? High school graduates and 2006-7 seniors who are interested
in or are considering a future in computing and who are deaf or hard of
hearing.

How to apply? Send a letter of interest/application which is typed and not
more than one page; state your name, school attending, mailing address, and
email address and describe your interest in computing fields and the math
courses you have taken. Enclose two sealed letters of reference describing your
math level, computing interest/aptitude, and personal qualities that will lead
to success in college studies and careers; send them separately or enclosed
with your letter of interest/application to:

Dr. Fat C. Lam
Department of Mathematics & Computer Science
Gallaudet University
Washington, DC 20002

Submit your application by May 1, 2006. Because selection of students may
begin before this deadline, interested students are encouraged to apply early.
Applications after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.
