Hello
My name is Deborah Savage and I'm the Director of Student Technology
Services; Senior User Support Coordinator and Technology Disability
Coordinator at Johns Hopkins University. With all of these titles, my
primary responsibilities are to disseminate information and make using
technology easy. There are two FTEs and approximately 50 students who work
for/with me to make this happen.
Several years ago we established our “Accessible Technology Center” in our
academic computing lab. The facility is designed to accommodate the
information technology needs of all JHU students, including students with
special needs; mobility, visual, learning, and language impairments.
Although all of the computers in the lab are equipped with accessible
software, specialized hardware and software is provided at just a few
workstations. These workstations are equipped with adjustable height desks,
adjustable seating, 21 inch high resolution monitors, and scanners.
When I am not at work, I am a wife and the mother of two, both graduated
last year (an electrical and civil engineer) and four step children. We
live on a farm where we grow trees.
Although I am a member of several listserv, I don't think I have a favorite
