I don't agree, Tresy, privacy or not is more than just what kind of
junk mail one gets or doesn't get.  if the state has information on
someone, say a radical agitator, they can sabotage his efforts and
ruin his life and send him to jail.  if they don't know he exists or
know very little about him none of this can happen.  it is true that
even if there were no video cameras documenting an event, the
state would probably find some way to punish someone who has
crossed them, but having that kind of evidence gives weight to
their position.  maybe i took 1984 far too seriously, but i would be
happy if there were no databases and video cameras and state
surveillance agencies...very happy.
