I heard from several people who thought that both parents had to actually
have CD in order to have a child with CD...and that is not the case. As
to whether both parents have to carry the gene in order to have a child
with celiac disease...it seems the jury is still out.

The parents of one child with CD said that they had asked Dr. Fasano that
very question two years ago and his reply was, "they don't know".
I also heard from a Dutch Ph.D. student who is working on the genetics of
CD and her answer was, "your daughter's book is wrong, we don't know
yet".

Let's hope that the year 2000 will bring us closer to the answers we
need!

Elizabeth
