Hello everyone,

I recently moved to Texas and live in the North Texas area. I would like to find a good GI doctor in the Denton or Grapevine area if possible. Also can travel to Dallas area if necessary. I moved from Boston and was fortunate to be seen by Dr. Leffler at BIDMC. He was wonderful and helped me through my recovery. I would like to find a doctor in this area knowledgeable about CD.

I have seen postings in the past from people newly diagnosed with CD asking how long it takes to heal. I will share my experience. I was diagnosed in the summer of 2007 by biopsy (which showed total villous atrophy). I was very sick, anemic, and all the typical problems associated with untreated Celiac Disease. I worked with my doctors in Boston for the first 4 years. Even when I went totally GF I needed to be treated for other problems, such as small intestine bacterial overgrowth, lymphocytic (microscopic) colitis, and anemia. I also had to learn to identify hidden gluten in  my food (Thanks to Melinda Dennis!). Even with all this treatment my tTG stayed around 40 and I my ferritin and other iron related blood levels were abnormal. I kept going forward and slowly these things resolved. I am thrilled to report that my most recent bloodwork showed wonderful (and normal) blood levels for anemia (including a normal ferritin - iron) and (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)
my tTG antibodies were less than 2!!!!!!!! So the moral of this story is to not give up - it can take 5 years or longer to heal and the benefits of sticking to a strict GF diet will pay off! I feel better than I have in 10 years!
