Hi All,

Several more comments have arrived about my post.

_________

I've been unable to have oats for some time and wondered, frequently, about
the possibilities of "altered oats". I'm not even sure what I'm talking
about, but, as many on the list, explore alternatives from time to time.

I'm particularly interested because they have always been able to keep my
chloresterol levels way down and I'd love to have that option again.

Any comments on the above subject?

Why the push for oats? I don't understand it. It seems like the medical,
nutritional community must be getting some kind of kick back from oats
growers. I don't understand why oats are so necessarry? As someone who
waited over 30 years to figure out what was wrong with me, I could care less
if I ever try oats. I get itchy just thinking about them! (I also believe I
have a wheat allergy in addition to Celiac) I have no problems getting fiber
as I eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies, even flax if necessary, but
usually not.

Thanks for listening. I just hope it doesn't get too hard in the future for
Celiacs who knowingly and happily choose not to eat oats.

Hi -- You made me think with this message. My son and I eat gf oats as
oatmeal, and also in one of the breads we eat. My son has bad GERD and
seemingly related constricted airways, and I read something about leaky gut
possibly being related to asthma and other ailments. Are there studies
underway or planned that would give us more information about oats being
contributory to leaky gut? Or, do we just have to give up oats if we
believe there could well be a relationship between oats and leaky gut? It
sounds like they are working on leaky gut but not the specific foods that
might contribute at this point.

I was in agreement with your post and therefore did not feel the need to
comment. Early in my gluten-free diet, I experienced painful abdominal
distension after consuming oats. For this reason, oats are not a part of my
diet. I appreciated your articulate and insightful post.
