GLUTEN-FREE AWAY FROM HOME: Navigating Travel, School, College and Camp

Maria Ann Roglieri, Ph.D. is Professor of Italian at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She holds a B.A. from Columbia University, and an M.A., Ph.D. in Italian literature from Harvard University. Maria is the author of The Gluten-Free Guide to Italy, The Gluten-Free Guide to France, The Gluten-Free Guide to New York, and is the editor of The Gluten-Free Guide to Washington, D.C.

In addition to The Gluten-Free Guides, she has authored numerous articles and a book on Dante and music (Ashgate, 2001). She has also authored articles on gluten-free Italy and France, and Spain for ZonderMeer Magazine and the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group newsletter. She has been a guest blogger on celiacchicks.com and glutenfreeglobetrotter.com. Maria is very active in the American celiac community, giving lectures and counseling the newly-diagnosed, and she is a member of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America, and the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group. Maria went on a gluten-free diet after 15 years of doctoring and four operations failed to relieve her digestive and neurological symptoms. Around the same time, her then six-year-old daughter, Sara Friedman, was diagnosed with celiac disease and placed on a gluten-free diet.

Sara Diana Friedman is the author of The Gluten-Free Guide to Washington, D.C. Her book has just been released in the second edition. Sara, who is now 16, attends Sleepy Hollow High School. She enjoys playing viola and piano, singing, and running. She has written an article on gluten-free Washington, D.C. and New York for ZonderMeer Magazine (in the Netherlands) and has been a guest blogger on celiacchicks.com. She has also appeared on tv’s NYMetro 1 to talk about gluten-free living with Shelley Goldberg.

Maria and Sara will share their knowledge and experience with us, and there will be a question and answer period following their presentation. Be sure to attend this informative meeting!
