Regarding brown sugar, I am most suspicious of any
brown sugar that does not say "sugar and molasses" as their only
ingredients. As such, I never buy any domino brown sugar.

The 'Acme' Supermarket chain in the New York/New Jersey
area has a store brand that is sugar and mollasses only.
The 'Big Y' Supermarket chain in New England has a store
brand (called Kingston) that is also brown sugar and molasses.

I only buy brown sugar when it's on sale - otherwise, I buy
molasses by the gallon from a natural food coop (it's cheaper
that way) and mix it with white sugar - no ambiguity then about
caramel colors.

Yes, Virginia, the US food industry is trying to poison us.
