Recently, my husband and I had the opportunity for a "getaway" to
celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. (Our daughter stayed with my
family in Northern Vermont on our annual vacation there.) I had had a
recommendation about this place from a friend and had contacted them
beforehand. They said that they were able to accommodate special
diets, and had had other GF guests in the past.

This inn was built in the late 1700's. It is located in northeast
Vermont near the New Hampshire border. Their website is
www.rabbithillinn.com

The short version: I was not disappointed, to say the least.

Long version: Guess I'll talk about the food first, since that's
undoubtedly what this list wants to hear about! When we arrived, it
was tea time, although it was a hot day, so it was iced tea and
lemonade. There was a table laden with what you'd expect - little
cakes and cookies and things, all looking very yummy. As we were
chatting with one of the owners, a woman came in and set a plate down
next to me - it had on it little lemon cheesecake squares and small
wedges of a yummy fudgy cakish thing. She said that it was all GF,
and that their pastry chef, Paula, loved challenges! And she was
right - it was delicious! What a treat to sit and eat yummy things
with the others without having to cook it myself!!!!!!!!

At dinner, which is a 5 course meal (all meals are included in the
cost), the very knowledgeable waitperson when through the menu with me
(there is a sample menu on the Web site). She knew exactly what I
could and couldn't eat, and what could easily be modified for me. And
when she brought the little homemade loaf of bread out for my husband,
there was a basket of GF carrot cornbread for me! Everything was
really yummy and presented beautifully.

When it came time for dessert, she told me not to bother looking at
the menu, they had a surprise for me, which turned out to be a
miniature strawberry souffle surrounded with fresh berries. (I was
pretty full by that time, but I felt I just had to do my duty!)

The next morning, we arrived to a buffet, again, loaded with
off-limits goodies. But when I came back to my table with my bowl of
fresh fruit, there was a beautiful lemon raspberry coffeecake, just
for me! Plus there was a choice of an egg dish or pancakes, so, of
course, I had the eggs, and again stuffed myself way too full!

The overriding feeling I had with regards to the food was that they
just delighted in surprising me and presenting me with these yummy
things, knowing that most restaurants are full of things I can't eat
for the most part. I felt totally treated and taken care of the whole
time.

In addition to the food, there were lots of personal touches. I had
mentioned beforehand that we might go to a movie. The local movies
and times were on our bed when we arrived. They knew this was an
anniversary getaway, and there was romantic harp music playing in a
tape recorder by our bed when we got there. That sort of thing.
Again, we felt totally treated.

It's a nice setting, in the center of a small town. There are trails
to walk on, puzzles set up in the lobby, shuffleboard, badminton, and
horseshoes set up to play, and just all in all a beautiful place to
get away to. My husband and I really re-connected and I will always
have fond memories.

My only complaint, fairly minor, is that I was aware of traffic noise
from the nearby highway at times.

It is, admittedly, not a close drive for very many people, but if you
are ever in the neighborhood, I can heartily recommend Rabbit Hill
Inn.
