It was no contest! The consensus was clear: Kinnikinnick was the
favorite. Here are the results:

Kinnikinnick: 19
Glutino.com (DeRoMa): 6
Sterks: 1
Gluten Free Cookie Jar: 1
Ener-G English Muffin (tastes like a bagel): 1

This should not be taken to mean the other bagels are not good. Very
possibly people were not aware of their availability. Following are some
of the comments received.

kinnikinick is the best i have had all though no where near as good as
what I make myself. expensive too as most GF prepared stuff

I have found two different suppliers of ready to eat bagels. Both are
good. Many fellow support group members like one or the other. I would
suggest your friend try both and decide for herself. The companies are
Sterks of Canada and Gluten Free Cookie Jar of Trevose, PA. I do not
have their phone numbers with me (I'm in work), but can bring them in and
e-mail you again. Sterks are a little bit lighter and the G-F Cookie Jar
have a heavier consistency. Both good and as I said a matter of personal
taste. Sterks drives across to Niagra Falls to ship UPS so there is no
extra duty to pay.

As I promised yesterday, here is address and phone numbers for two good
bagel suppliers that I am aware of:

   seed, raisin

   pumpernickel

My husband's favorite is the poppyseed bagel (there are other flavors)
from Glutino. You can find info for your friend at www.glutino.com.
They ship from Canada (2-day) and the products freeze well. The bagels
are great toasted.

I love the tapioca rice bagels from Kinnikinnick. You can find them at
www.kinnikinnick.com

The best ready-made bagels I have found yet are from Kinnikinnick Foods.

They have plain, cinnamon-raisin, sesame seed. I have tried the plain
and the sesame seed. They're a little expensive, but they are as close
to the "real thing" as I've found so far. Also, Kinnikinnick Foods has
the best English muffins I've found so far.

Both the bagels and the muffins freeze well. I thaw them in the
microwave for a few seconds, then split and toast. However, I still
think I'm going to try one of the bagels just thawed and then heated in
the microwave. I'm not sure I have to toast them, they seem to be a
good consistency right out of the micro.

Just for the record, Kinnikinnick's Italian white rice bread is the best
bread I've found so far also. It freezes great and is not quite as
expensive as some of the others I've tried.

They do have a web site www.kinnikinnick.com and I order everything off
the Internet. But their snail mail address is Kinnikinnick Foods,
Inc., 10306 - 112 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T5K 1N1

Their toll free order line is 1-877-503-4466. They will send order
information and catalogs. Their fax number is 780-421-0456.

glutino sesame bagels

www.kinnikinnick.com has great bagels. You need to warm them so they
are soft enough to slice, then toast for the best flavor.

I ordered some from Glutino and they were kinda ok toasted, pretty
tough. But not worth the money they cost especially after shipping.

I get my bagels from Kinnikinnick Foods in Canada.
(www.kinnikinnick.com) I think they are good, but they are not the real
thing -- as I remember from the distant past. On the other hand, the
Kinnikinnick English muffins are fabulous.

My favorite are the ready-made bagels from Kinnikinnick in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada. They taste like real bagels, even if they aren't quite
a chewy. Their "Everything Bagel" is my favorite of all.

Kinnickinnick Foods in Canada makes an EXCELLENT plain tapioca bagel
which my 16 hear old daughter loves.

The best bagels I have found are from Deroma, in Montreal, Quebec,
Canada.

They come in packages of four (poppy seed, sesame seed or plain...and
possibly a few new ones!). They are excellent...not far off the real
thing!

Their number is 1-800-363-3438 and their website is www.glutino.com

Ener-G Foods has a new brown rice English Muffin. I never thought it
tasted at all like an English muffin, but both my wife and I think it
does taste exactly like very good bagel. Same high fat content too ( I
love em with Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese, and lox, with few
capers ). The phone number of Enger-G Foods is 1-800-331-5222. And
they deliver, rather quickly now. You might also tell them to try their
new Gourmet Crackers: Even my wife can't tell them from soda crackers.
And their granola bars are good too, not to speak of their tapioca bread.
