On the health network, I saw a program about Beta Glucan. It explained
that it was an immune enhancer, and they had excellent results with
arteriosclerosis using this supplement that can be purchased in a health
food store. They gave sites on the Internet that revealed many, many
studies done in the last 30 years. I was surprised that it was
presented by mainstream doctors as a non-prescription item that the
doctor presenting seemed to endorse. (No brand name was recommended).
On the sites there seemed to be two different messages. One message was
that if you have an auto immune deficiency disease such as diabetes, MS,
allergies, etc. you should check with your doctor before using the
supplement although no known side effects were ever noted. At this site
they also mentioned the positive effects in those fighting cancer and
diabetes. To my knowledge these are auto immune deficiency diseases.
The other site stated that it was good for those with both an over
active and under active immune response.

Is it know whether celiac disease is a auto immune deficiency disease
that might indicate an overactive immune response? It would seem to me
that CD is a reaction to something outside the body that it is fighting
(gluten) and therefore it does not fall into the category of an
auto immune disease. What is known about this?

Have any of you used this Beta 1 - 3 Glucan with positive results?
