Dear List,

While I have certainly shed many a tear and uttered quite a few curses
since going gluten and dairy free I would have to say for the most part
I do like what I eat. No, I'm not nuts but I am so happy to feel good
and healthy that it is worth it to me. I also have to say that I am
glad to have been forced to stop eating alot of the absolute garbage
that is passed off as food currently in this culture. I eat real food
now. I am glad to have been forced to learn to eat in a different way.
I no longer focus on food at social gatherings (or in my life in
general) and run with the herd to pile it onto my plate just because
its there.

Before I get a ton of notes about this let me say that I do know what
its like to go out and not be able to eat, I know what my three kids go
thru because they are on a "special diet", I think I understand what my
spouse has been thru as I have been gf, dairy free, corn free, soy free,
sugar free, onion & garlic free and basically ate meat and vegetable for
two years until I could eat everything again but gluten and dairy. Its
tough and it stinks sometimes but it doesn't make me nuts for being glad
to be able to control my health.

We don't have to tear each other up because we have a different
experience than the next person. Food is so important to all of us for
so many reasons and so is being a part of things, naturally the
emotional and social aspects of this can be devestating. Good luck to
all, Larissa Blechman
