Thank you to all who responded to my post re: gluten free & nut free candy
for my daughter's birthday party. I apologize if I didn't get back to you
personally. My child is GF, and has invited a friend who's peanut/nut free.
I'd like nobody to feel "different" at the party, I don't want anyone to
feel excluded from having any candy in the pinata. I think I'll stay away
from the chocolate (except m&m minis) and go for mostly the charms,
starbursts, gum & jolly ranchers.
Here are the helpful things you had to say:

Lifesavers hard candies and suckers, Skittles, Starbursts, individual
packages of gummy worms, peppermints, BlowPops, Charms suckers, Pixistix,

I hestitate to recommend LifeSavers because they've recently been bought out
by a tobacco company - but they are gf, a low choke risk (a pediatrician
friend of mine explains that a child can breathe through the hole until the
candy dissolves) and should be free of nuts.

Those little individual sized mounds and butter fingers are both gf. I don't
know about the peanuts in Butter fingers.

As for the candy----------why not use Hershey's Kisses ----almond and plain.
Some suckers. And the kids favorite M & M's.

I don't know what the availability of these products are in your area, but
all candy manufactured by "Just Born" (the company who makes "Peeps" during
Eastertime) is gf. You can call them at 1-800-652-4267 and they'll send you
their list. They also sent a box of samples. Since you only have a few
days, I'm sure they can give you their list over the phone. They were very
pleasant and helpful.

i think this might help you out. sorry for the length, i copied it from
abi's gluten free food list. this was the whole candy section! hope you
find what could work! i do recommend the farley gummy type things. my
daughter loves them. they are not made with any peanut product. some brand
of mint might work, i mean the softer kind not the hard candy. i know all
hershey products are made on the same line as the nut products so those are
out. you might go for a gum too, but i am not sure of the ages. skittles,
and necco candies could work (remember the buttons candy? and the necklace
kind?) starburst, and tootsie roll stuff? i think they are peanut free and
they make other things too and there is always the dum dum lollys!!! you
could always fill it with small toys like cars and pretend jewelry things
like that. there are party shops with lots of favors. just for something
different. some people use money too (coins), but i know that could cost
some pending the size and how many kids!

It depends on where you live. Chocolate is always a good choice, kisses and
other small items. But, I livein TX and last year it melted before the last
kid got a wach at it. This year I put toys in the pinata. I gave the kids
their party bag, they did the pinata and then loaded up their own party bag.

All your reeses peanut butter candy (reese cups,
pieces and M&Ms(all but crispy) are GF. Also, most of
sugar hard candies like sweet tarts,gummy bears, jelly
beans ,etc are GF. Hope this helps

But regardless here is what I would do.
Get the 800 phone for 3 or 4 large candy vendors and
call and ask. Since you need to very no nuts, it
would be desireable to be 100 percent sure

I don't have any information at all on nuts/peanuts. Sorry, all I can
suggest is contacting companies that make GF treats and see what the
potential for nut/peanut contamination is.

You just described my son. There are lots of things. Smarties, starburst,
dum dums lollipops, hershey's kisses. I can't think of anymore right now.

I hope this doesn't come to late but I use tootsie rolls, dum dum lollipops
and starburst all the time for my daughter. Hershey's kisses are ok too.
M&M's are gluten free but the package says it may contain traces of peanuts.
You should call Hershey's and Nestle's so they can send you a list for next
year and Halloween!

For our pinata, we used tootsie rolls, tootsie roll pops, life savers and
starbursts. If your pinata is not going to be outside or exposed to heat
(as ours was), there is a lot more to choose from - rolos, snickers,
hershey's miniatures, etc. I bought alot of little toys, pencils,
erasers, etc. to fill up the extra space. And, don't forget the confetti!

I checked with Swedish fish and they are peanut, nut soy and gluten free.
Our kids love them. There are other candies out there also like
lifesavers and around here we have Shoprite that carries chocolate bars
that are peanut, gluten, nut and soy free The frosting sounds fine if you
make your own frosting. Hope they have a great time.
