Here were my questions:

Do any of you have a family history of projectile vomiting in infants?
Did any change of formula reduce or eliminate the problem?

Did any infants in your family actually have surgery for the condition?

And the summary of responses: (If ya'll get tired of reading them, you may
still want to read my notions on the subject, later)

1. My older son had it, but I was breastfeeding. I switched to bottle-
feeding at that time. No surgery performed; he is now 31 and 6'3". If
he has celiac, he is asymptomatic.

2. I don't know if this is much help but every time I gave my daughter
cereal as a baby, she would do the projectile vomiting. She was
diagnosed with Celiac at age 11. No, she did not have any surgery for
it. We did try all the GERD medicines, having her sleep on a 45 degree
incline, etc, but none worked.Taking her off cereal stopped the projectile
vomiting.

3. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac at 18 mos. Prior to that she had
many episodes of projectile vomiting shortly after eating so I am sure it
was some type of gluten ingestion. I never changed the formula as I was not
aware of the celiac problem at that point, and she never had any surgery.
Once the gluten free diet was introduced, she no longer had any problem with
it.

4. My son (first born) had projectile vomiting first thing. We changed his
formula; vomiting continued; changed to another formula--still vomited;
changed formula to soy milk; vomiting continued; doc said to change formula
to goats milk. My mother said "no way". We made our own formula
(old-fashioned) from canned Pet's Evaporated milk, boiled water, & Karo
Syrup. No more projectile vomiting, nor very much spit-up immediately upon
this change. My 2nd born (daughter) started same problems of projective
vomiting first thing. I immediately went straight to the homemade formula
and had no more problems from that point on.Altho I have suspected that both
my children may have mild CD symptoms, they have not been diagnosed. I was
not diagnosed until age 46 (I am 52 now) after suffering for 5 years from
intense bowel problems

5. my adopted daughter -2 1/2 months old-- had projecticle vomiting at
first. We put her on a soy milk formula until age six months when she
was put on goat's milk. The md said that he didn't like to keep kids on
a soy milk formula longer because he found that they got very fat and it
was the wrong kind of fat. I kept her off all cow's milk products for
years...we found that when she did eat some cheese later, she got very
dark and goppy ear wax.

6. Do any of you have a family history of projectile vomiting in
infants? I Did as an infant , and many of my grandkids and now i've got
two that HAVE AND THE ONE STILL IS AT ALMOST 8 MO Did any change of
formula reduce or eliminate the problem? IN ME IT DID In my
greatgrandson it did and in my greatgranddaughter it hasn't Did any
infants in your family actually have surgery for the condition? NO

7. I had projectile vomiting as an infant. They told my folks that I had
pyloric stenosis. (This was before WWII when we understood CD)..I was
fed mostly oatmeal instead of formula.

8. my gluten sensitive son did have the projectile business going on, though
not to a point that we had to consider surgery, still quite a bit.

9. my child used to do that when she was a newborn up until about 4
months. she is now 6 and was cd diagnosed at age 5.

10. My child had projectile vomiting as an infant. She was diagnosed
with CD at 15mos. She was vomiting when I was still nursing and even
formula(s) didn't change it. Many trips to the GI gave her prescriptions
to control reflux. Made no difference. Only thing that helped was GF diet.
