American Airlines provides special meals in first and business classes on transcontinental flights (coast to coast), but NOT on flights from the west coast to Hawaii.  Flight times are essentially the same, as is the distance between flights.  I have written them to complain, but there is strength in numbers.  Go to aa.com to make your voice heard.
