Hello:

I asked this same question about a year ago or so and had many of the same
responses about having children or not. Again it is a personal choice to
have or not to have. I am a little sad to hear us making this disease seem
like a walk in the park. We all know the difficulties that we face each day.
Although we adapt well as adults- teens and children have a much harder
time. I am a teacher and I know that teens tease other teens for the
littlest things. We all remember how much we wanted to be like the rest of
our friends when we were teens. This disease is really hard on the few teens
I have come in contact with that had cd. I still am undecided about
children of a number to reasons, not just cd. But lets remember- after you
have children you can never imagine your life without them. Before them,
your life was different. I wonder if I can live guilt free if they get it
and I see them suffering from it. I am not sure I could ever feel good about
that. Having a kid is already difficult and adding all the extras is really
something to think about. I am glad that so many of you care about your
children and love them through all the cd worries. That will make for better
adjusted adults. People keep saying that our disease is not life threating-
please remember that people do die as a result of cd- there body never
adjusts to the gf diet. I am not saying our disease it the worst of all.
But let us not negate it to ourselves or we will never get the rest of the
population to take us seriously. Just some food for thought. Tracy Donnelly
