The mystery deepens.  We've had the opposite experience.
 
My son, who is highly reactive to gluten and responds to contamination with
days or weeks of diarrhea, seems to do very well with Rice Dream (original
flavor especially.)  Perhaps there is something else in it that people are
reacting to.  Or perhaps my son tolerates these barley enzymes, even though
he can't usually handle barley malt in any other form.
 
I guess this is an individual thing.  I am prepared to believe that this
barley issue may prove to be a problem for my son, but I truly have not been
able to observe it as yet.
