This is an exerpt from an article on Nu-Trim the fat substitute:

BOSTON (UPI) - Government scientists say they have created a new dietary
fat substitute that promises to reduce fat and be good for your heart.

The new product, ''Nu-Trim,'' contains high concentrations of beta-
glucans, soluble fibers found in oats and barley that are known to lower
LDL (''bad'') cholesterol and total cholesterol, which have been linked to
heart disease. It is the first fat substitute designed to meet U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for food products that
can be advertised as good for the heart, said George Inglett, a U.S.
Department of Agriculture chemist who created the product. <snip>

Actually this is a lengthy article.... but the oats & barley part was
all WE needed to hear.
Looks like this product will be on the *unsafe* list for those with
Celiac Sprue.
