When the issue of celiac and HMO's was first posted, I wrote back to the
writer about my skepticism. I am a clinical social worker from Massachusetts
in private practice. I believe that HMO's are not responsive to these kinds
of issues. I hope to be proven wrong, but my experience is that HMO's are
first and foremost interested in profits for themselves and their
stockholders. I am very active in an organization of mental health providers,
nationwide, who are trying to address the egregious affronts to patients who
find themselves unable to access adequate care through the general managed
care system.

Nevertheless, if someone thinks that there is any good that can come from
such educating, lobbying, etc., I might be interested in following through
with this.
