I just wanted to share some excellent experiences I had in the
Disney/Orlando area. First, I must say that Babycakes at Downtown Disney is
not to be missed for some sinful delights. As for the Disney parks, they
don't actually say that anything is gluten free, but they will give you the
ingredients list of anything in question so that you can determine for
yourself if it's safe or not. The only restaurants we went to on Disney
property were the Rainforest Cafe and Planet Hollywood, both in the
Downtown Disney area. The Rainforest doesn't have a gluten free menu, but
they bring the head chef out to discuss what can be made gluten free. I
just got a burger without a bun (which they charged me $14 for) and a side
of plain broccoli. I am pleased to report no negative experience there.
Same thing at Planet Hollywood, but they actually have gf rolls if I wanted
a burger on a bun, and they will make specially cut steak fries and bake
them. I wasn't very hungry so I just opted for a baked potato. Finally, we
went to the Hard Rock Cafe over at Universal. They didn't have a gf menu
either, but they did have a dedicated gf fryer, so you could get French
fries with no concerns, and also of course steaks. But the best eperience I
had, food wise, was Seaworld. They actually indicate on their park map
which places are allergy friendly. I had brought a sandwich with me because
I didn't want to take a chance eating there. But when my kids got pizza at
Seaside Pizza and it looked and smelled so good, I inquired about gf pizza.
They said that they had it and it was made off premises and cooked in a
separate oven, and they would even send someone out to thoroughly clean the
table before I ate. I ordered it, and was so happy to see that it was one
of those things that they cook inside of a sealed bag! They even gave me a
plastic pizza cutter sealed in plastic! It was pretty good, too. Not as
good as what I can get here on Long Island (Joan's gf Greatbakes) but
definitely palatable.
I hope someone out there can use this info :)
