Many thanks to all the listmates who responded to my recent inquiry on
gluten free lipstick. The response was terrific. I received 20 responses
on the first day, and a few more comments are still coming in. In the
interest of brevity, and in order to cover all of the comments, I will
post more that one summary, as I am still in the process of compiling
the results. Hopefully, the second posting should follow in a few days.

One listmate forwarded a list of gluten free lipsticks that was posted a
little over a year ago, and she saved it at that time. I am listing it
below, ver batum:

Following is a list of GF lipsticks: (Number of people in parenthesis)
Oil of Olay (3)
Almay (5)
Mary Kay (6) lipstick, lip liner and lip gloss
Neutrogena (7)
Echo Bella (4) Available in health food stores
Lancome - NOT Stello Sport (2)

Clinque (4) - NOT the "different line", or the long lasting formula
Cover Girl (2)
Wet n Wild (2)
All Blistex products

I was also given the following 2 websites to check out for make up:
http://forums.delphi.com/n/main.asp?webtag=celiac&nav=messages, and
http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/4003/gf-index.html

Another listmate from Canada sent the following information:

GF LIPSTICK
Replies received November 2003 to question asked on celiac-canada email
list.

In November 2002, an article written by Betsy McNulty in the Saskatoon
Chapter Celiac Digest stated that the following were gluten free:

L'Oreal Colour Riche, Colour Endure, and Endless (1-800-847-5911)
Mary Kay lip products are gf (consult with your local representative)
Maybeline Moisture Whip and Lip Liner (made by L'Oreal)
Merle Norman Moist Lip Colour, Lip Pencil Plus, Lipstick Luxiva
Lasting Lip Colour, and Definitive Lip Liner (1-800-348-8889)
Shoppers Drug Mart Quo Lipsticks, Automatic Lip Liner, and Wood
Wedge Lip Liner (1-800-746-7737)
Marcelle (Rouge Vitality) are GF

All Burt's Bee's lip products, lip balms lipsticks are GF. Just went to
the website & checked http://www.burtsbees.com/, or www.burtsbees.com,
(click on product, and you will get a list of ingredients).

A total of eight listmates asked me to summarize results. (Including one
MD).

One listmate stated that she was diagnosed with CD eight years ago. She
had always used Clinique, but it is not working now. Then she tried
Revlon, and it is just as bad. She states that after using Clinique, it
causes her lips to chap very badly, and takes days to recover. She has
chosen to give up lipstick to avoid the suffering.

The most unusual e-mail I received was on Feb 1st. My Norton virus scan
gave me a message that the e-mail contained two viruses, and should be
quarantined. I immediately deleted the e-mail. When I clicked the second
time, to permanently delete it, it was a one line message that said
"Revlon is GF". I did not copy the e-mail address to warn the sender,
but if the sender of Feb 1st reads this, they should check their
computer for not one, but possibly two viruses.

In recent phone calls to some companies to inquire about gf products, I
have been told by some to check the status of their gf products every
six months, as some of their suppliers change ingredients on short
notice.

This is only a summary of 14 of the 25 comments I have received so far.
I have more information to post, including information I have received
from some of the links provided in response to my query. Hopefully, I
can complete the summary in another post in just a few days.
