Hi Everyone,

I am feeling very overwhelmed at this point and need some advice and help from you. I will apologize now for the length of this post. I hope that you don't get bored before you get to the end.

My husband has celiac disease -- diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago at age 58. He has been very strict with following the GF diet and has improved greatly. He was also diagnosed with osteopenia around the same time which has now resolved due to exercise, calcium supplementation and diet. He also used Miacalcin Nasal Spray for one year and then has taken Fosamax weekly for about one year. He has been told that he will have to continue taking the Fosamax for the rest of his life, but is having some stomach discomfort so is not taking it for a couple of weeks to see if it makes a difference. We both hate taking medicine and would prefer to treat most conditions with natural means.

He has also been plagued with multiple environmental allergies for years -- his first allergy testing was the old scratch test done in 1967. At that time, his doctor just treated the symptoms and really didn't do anything to try to desensitize him to the allergens.

He was tested again in 1982 by another doctor, but this time they drew blood to run the test. He again tested positive for many environmental allergens. The doctor also tested for food allergens and he tested slightly positive to quite a few foods (interestingly enough, wheat was not one of them). We were told that the food allergies were so slight that we didn't need to be concerned about them. He was treated with allergy injections for the past 20 years for the environmental allergies.

After moving, we went to a new allergist who insisted on retesting him for environmental allergies and also thinks that he should be retested for food allergies as well. He has many of the symptoms associated with food allergies.

The environmental allergy testing was done last week with the newer needle stick method. He reacted to many things -- some the same as the last time and some new ones. The thing that he reacted to the most was candida.

The nurse gave us a 2 page handout called the Anti-Candida Diet and Natural Treatments. It talks about systemic candidiasis and how to treat it. I have read the entire handout and done some research on the internet and I am just overwhelmed and really don't know where to start.

Compared to this, the GF diet seems like a walk in the park.

Can anyone tell me if this is the proper way to diagnose systemic candidiasis? From what I understood from the nurse, he was tested for airborne candida. Is that the same as what is found in systemic candidiasis? Is the treatment the same?

The literature mentions taking acidophilus, Aquaflora, and possibly caprylic acid capsules and or colloidal silver. Does anyone know what brands of acidophilus are GF?

I would appreciate any helpful information that anyone would like to share.

Thanks in advance,

Barbara in Missouri
