<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

1. Sources of gluten free (GF) products
- Supermarkets: Most, particularly in the larger cities, have GF aisles. The
names noted are Tesco, Superquinn, Dunnes, Crazy Prices, Quinnsworth, Marks
and Spencers, SuperValu and Roaches.
- Health food stores: Most, especially the larger ones, have GF products.
Natures Way stores were noted.
- Pharmacies: Most, especially the larger, have some GF products or they can
order them in. Boots stores were noted.
- Related information: Products include breads, bread mixes, flours, pastas,
muesli, rice cakes, biscuits and crackers. Supermarkets and health food
stores tend to be cheaper. Baked items will usually contain GF wheat starch,
which is acceptable in Ireland. Dr. Schar products, available in Superquinn
stores, do not contain wheat starch. The same is the case with most, if not
all, Glutano products, which are available in Tesco stores. Other brand
names dedicated to GF products include Juvela, Glutafin, Clare's Kitchen,
Nutricia and Ultrapharm. Mulligan's Bakery makes a range of GF products and
Odlums makes GF flours and mixes.
2. Places to eat
   (no particular order)
- Dublin: Patrick Garibaldi, Trastavere's (Italian), Cornucopia
(vegetarian), The Kilkenny Shop (GF cakes and scones), Quaglino's, Shalimar
(Indian),Fitzer's, Roly's Bistro( Pricey but very good. Chef is celiac. GF
breads to buy and take away).
- A sampling of other locations: Westport/Lemon Peel. Galway/McDonagh's
(seafood). Clifden/Fogerty's. Lahinch/Vaughans. Youghal/ Aherne's Seafood.
Cork/Fernhill House Hotel. Clonakilty/Paddy Garibaldi's. Dingle/Doyle's.
- Related information: Most restaurant employees are quite knowledgeable
about celiac disease. Take a card with needs noted to give chef, if
necessary. Sometimes GF items are identified on the menu. If you provide the
GF bread most places will cheerfully make up a GF sandwich. Prices are
reasonable.
3. Bits and pieces of other information
- None of the respondents reported a reaction to GF wheat starch.
- Will be an article on GF travel in Ireland in the fall issue (Nov) of
Living Without magazine.
- People are so nice food is secondary.
- Take some of your own food with you until you get organized.
- A good place to visit if you are a celiac.
- Not much available in the rural farm areas.
- The web site for the Coeliac Society of Ireland is www.coeliac.ie and
their email address is <[log in to unmask]>
