Each day the number of celiac advocates increases. More advocates,
more letters and calls to legislators. Congressional staffers have
been contacting the American Celiac Task Force asking additional
questions, and wanting more information. You have taken this project
to heart, and it shows.

Thanks to you our E-Advocacy site (www.capwiz.com/celiac) has been
sending emails fast and furious. How many emails? The site went
online in mid-June. In the first 7 days, 600 emails went to Capitol
Hill; the first month, 1530. July was a bit slow, with only 800. But
then, there was August -- with over 2000 emails, thanks to a little
help from the Today Show segment (350 letters in 1 day!). As of today,
almost 4800 letters have gone to Congress to educate members about
Celiac Disease, and ask for more accurate food labels.

New Yorkers are really tapping the keyboards. Senators Clinton and
Schumer top the recipients. They are followed closely by California
Senators Feinstein and Boxer. In the House of Representatives, Reps.
Davis (VA), and Moran (VA) have the lead, followed by Rep. Van Hollen
(MD). Rep. Simmons (CT) has lots of mail, too.

Celiacs are Taking Action, and we aren't going away. Lawmakers need to
keep hearing about celiac disease, how common it is, and who it
affects. The media is doing a good job keeping it in the news, but
Representatives and Senators pay attention to YOU, their constituents.

October is Celiac Awareness Month. Let's really show them our stuff!
