One of our support group members had been quite ill for some months. She
has examined her eating habits. For breakfast everyday, she ate Perky's
Nutty Rice cereal. Here is an excerpt from Pacific Grain Products, Inc. in
response to her inquiry. This letter is dated Feb. 16, 1996 from Janice
Donnelly Parker, Associate Marketing Manager.

"In answer to your question regarding the gluten free status of our
Nutty Rice cereal, Nutty Rice contains no gluten or gluten containing
ingredients. It is manufactured on the same line that our Nutty Corn (with
oat syrup solids) and our Nutty Wheat & Barely are made, however. Although
the lines are thoroughly cleaned between production runs, we cannot
guarantee that some cross-contamination does not occur. Due to the fact
that we cannot isolate pieces of our cereal manufacturing equipment, it is
not possible for us to be able to assure customers that our cereal is
completely gluten free. Because of this fact, we do not advertise Nutty
Rice as gluten free. Phone # 800-333-0110

Note from Anne to me: "Need I say more? The misery I endured has vanished"

She also wrote to PAVICH Family Farms regarding their organic raisins. A
quote from Tonya Pavich, Marketing Manager in her letter dated Dec. 20,
1995: Raisins are not treated with any gluten containing grains; they do
have a light tretment of sunflower oil to keep them from sticking
together." They also offer certified organic vegetables, citrus, onions,
melons, apples, and kiwi fruit, although no mention of gluten was made
regarding them since Anne's letter specifically questioned raisins.
