Hi All--

I posted the question to the list - Which lab, between York or Great Smokes, do people feel is most reputable, qualified, etc. for food allergy/sensitivity testing?

York got 3 votes - mostly because of the finger stick test (no need for a full blood draw)
Great Smokies got 1 vote
Two people noted they didn't know
One person mentioned using Quest Labs
One person wrote to tell me that three celiac specialists, in the course of conference speeches, said they thought York were incompetent crooks.

Some people thought York worked with insurance, but I checked and they don't. The patient has to submit to their insurance company after paying out of pocket. Another thing to remember is that if one uses York's doctor to prescribe the test and your insurance uses networks (HMOs, PPOs, etc.), if York's doc is not in your network, your insurance might not pay or will pay less than if your own doc prescribed the testing.

One person used York because Great Smokies didn't list their prices on the web site. According to the person I talked to at GS, you have to call and ask - think they quoted $143.00.

All in all, there still seems to be controversy about whether or not food allergy/sensitivity testing is valid, if so, what labs are reputable, how does one know the results are accurate, etc.......

Thanks to everyone who responded. Wish there was a more definitive way to judge this information.

Cheers,
Ayn in Alabama
