Hi. A couple of days ago this question was posted to the group:

Do any of you know can you have low levels of Vit. B12 without having
Celiac's disease?  I have Celiac's and my sister is having some similiar
symptoms but feels it's Candida but her Vit B12 is in the 200 range (very
low)  I'm trying to convince her it's Celiac's.  Any info is great.

At my last GI visit my GI told me to make sure to take a good B vitamin
supplement daily, one that was high in B6 and B12 especially. I already had
anemia before a couple of times and got really sick after doing a blood
donation to the Red Cross in 2000 (I was eating gluten back then and didn’t
know I was Celiac). Today I take the Nature Made B vitamin supplements; I
think they are the B Stress ones.

Anyway I have Earl Mindell’s Vitamin Bible book, which is a great resource
if you don’t have it. The question the poster brought up about B12 is good
because it is hard for everyone to absorb, even non-Celiacs (but we have an
especially hard time with it). Here is a bit of the important stuff of what
Earl Mindell has to say about B12 in his Vitamin Bible book. Jerry

FACTS:

Water soluble and effective in very small doses.
Commonly known as the "red vitamin," also cyanocobalamin.
Measured in micrograms (mcg.).
The only vitamin that contains essential mineral elements.
Not well assimilated through the stomach. Needs to be combined with calcium
during absorption to properly benefit the body.
Recommended adult dose is 3 mcg., with larger amounts suggested for pregnant
and lactating women.
A diet low in B1 and high in folic acid (such as a vegetarian diet) often
hides a vitamin-B12 deficiency.
A properly functioning thyroid gland helps B12 absorption. Symptoms of B12
deficiency may take more than five years to appear after body stores have
been depleted.

WHAT IT CAN DO FOR YOU:

Form and regenerate red blood cells, thereby preventing anemia.
Promote growth and increase appetite in children.
Increase energy.
Maintain a healthy nervous system.
Properly utilize fats, carbohydrates, and protein.
Relieve irritability.
Improve concentration, memory, and balance.
