I have continued to research the generic source of the Simvastatin made by Aurobindo (round, pale peach pill with "A" on one side and "02" on the other.) According to the pharmacy benefit manager for my particular insurance, i.e. Express Scripts - Aurobindo is gluten-free as of their phone call to the manufacturer in October 2008.

Another Listserv participant sent me the following web site for the FDA: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/drugsatfda/index.cfm?fuseaction=Search.Overview&DrugName=SIMVASTATIN  I learned that there are a number of manufacturers of Simvastatin.

The really good news is the pharmacist at Express Scripts advised that more companies, including the makers of generics, are going totally gluten-free - so it should be getting easier for all of us.

Gabriele
