Hello All,

I sent out an email to see if anyone had any reactions at Mellow Mushroom. We are in Columbus, OH and have only eaten at the Sawmill Road location. Our children's gluten anti-bodies are high and cross-contamination at MM was my first thought, as we are very, very, super careful about our gluten-free life. We don't always get the normal GI reactions, so it makes it very hard to tell where/when we have been glutened.

I haven't had the time to go our local restaurant to speak with the manager and ask about their kitchen safety practices yet. When I do, I'll send out an update to this group.

I know Mellow Mushroom uses Still Riding pizza crusts, so we order those online and baked them at home with success! I prebaked the crusts for 5 mins on the oven rack, put on our toppings and baked for another 6 mins on the overn rack. A friend mentioned that Mellow Mushrooms pizza tasted a bit sweeter than another local gluten-free pizza shop and that her kids preferred MM - so I added a dash of sugar to our pasta sauce before putting on our pizza crust. It was great!

Here are the responses from the group:

I am President of the Lexington, KY chapter of the Celiac Disease Foundation. We promoted Mellow Mushroom here in Lexington until we found out they had serious cross-contamination issues, and several people reported having reactions. If you suspect you are having trouble with them in your city, the problem may exist at the corporate level. That's just a suggestion. You should definitely go talk to the managers to see if they really understand how to avoid cross-contamination.

We live in Columbus too. Did not care for Mellow mushroom pizza...instead we choose either Cottage Inn or Mama Mimi's. My son's recent blood results were under 20. My husband picks up Cottage Inn at least once a week. It is at Lazelle and Sancus. Hope this helps!!!
