Sorry. I haven't seen the article but if someone has please pass
this message on to the editor. Being lactose intolerant is not
nonsense. I became lactose intolerant at the age of 24 due to
severe strep throat. I was put on megadoses of antiobotics and told to drink
plenty of dairy products to counteract the stomach upsets.
Up until then I always drank dairy and had no problems. I had actually
become totally dehydrated and was admitted to the hospital for a total of one
week. Of course I got better because of intravenous feeding -- that is until
they started me off of milk. My gastroenterologist put me under a lactose
test where I had to drink
what I call liquid sand and then underwent several blood tests during a
five-hour period where it was confirmed I was lactose intolerant.
To this day I cannot have even a trace amount of lactose or I become severely
ill. For those who are newly diagnosed as Celiac, I can totally understand
how they can be lactose intolerant also. I'm thinking of have my son tested
thru the lactose breathing test because even though on a strict gluten-free
diet, he still gets bouts
of diarrhea.
