Thank you to everyone one for your help. It looks like St. Louis has many options for a Celiac. This will have to be sent in several parts. Sorry about that. I wish they could enlarge the number of lines allowed. Rita

I have an email support group in St. Louis. These are restaurants that have been recommended by other Celiacs in the area. Those recommended that are in the downtown area are the Clark Street Grill, Everest Cafeteria, Hard Rock Cafe, Juniper Grill, Norton's, Red Moon, and Sqwires. Sorry, I have an appointment soon - I don't know which of the fast food places are in the area. I know that there is a Hardee's inside the ball park - got their low carb burger there last year (wrapped in lettuce) - messy but DELICIOUS! Bring home a winner!
PS I understand that Tony's (very elegant - last entry on my list) is having a come as you are to the game dinner this year. You may call to see the prices. Good luck. Tony's is a WINNER!
Nachomama’s: 9643 Manchester, Rock Hill: 961-9110 - This is not in alphabetical order because this was the very first restaurant suggested to stlouisalerts when it began several years ago and a sentimental favorite. BUT, I did not realize that they now mark G by their GF selections. You may have to ask for this menu as it isn’t always on the counter (You order from a menu board a la McDonald’s, Hardee’s etc.) Isn’t that exciting? (It is VERY informal - makes McDonald’s look like the Ritz, but McDonald's doesn't serve Marguaritas!) It has turned out to be a real winner. Thank you, Grace .

Acropolis: 200 W Main St ; Belleville, IL 62220-1504 ; (618)234-5883 - "We ate at The Acropolis in Belleville this weekend and the staff knew about gluten and the cross contamination issues. Their food was great and their staff really nice. I highly recommend it. I had the pork chop and mashed potatoes and salad and the waiter said a regular GF customer of theirs always orders the chicken." 4/06

Almond’s : 8127 Maryland Av., 63105, 725-1019 "Almonds is on Maryland Ave. in Clayton. The chef is familiar with preparing food for Celiacs and is willing to accommodate. His food is very fresh and delicious. They have a wide variety to choose from and an interesting flair! The dinner entrees are fairly reasonable ($9.95 - $21.95) and everything is a la carte. They also serve lunch if you want to try it at a less expensive price. I recommend reservations on the weekend. Enjoy!" 9/05

Ameristar Casino, 1260 S. Main, St. Charles, MO 636-949-7777 "Denny was supposed to have a business lunch at the Ameristar casino. After several calls and messages he spoke with someone who claimed to be the chef and he was clueless. He gave the standard we have over 140 items on our buffet and I am sure you can find something to eat- like you can see gluten. He then asked if he could bring his food and sit with them and he was told that it would be $10. to sit at their table. I guess they are off our list" 12/05

Annie Gunn’s: 16806 Chesterfield Airport Road, 636-632-7684 "We ate there and it was great! It is a MORE expensive restaurant but I would definitely recommend it. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. I recommended that they work on some desserts! The did have Creme Brulee which was good. I would recommend adding this restaurant to the list". 3/06

Applebee’s: Several locations - While they no longer list their GF items on their website, several in the group eat at the St. Charles Rock Rd. and 270 Applebee’s. Jan or Janet, the new manager is very helpful and one of our group swears by the plain grilled salmon & garlic smashed potatoes. Others suggested the riblets.

Arby’s: Several locations - Bacon, ham, beef, pepperoni, salami, turkey breast, sausage patties, all cold sauces, BBQ sauces and condiments (no mushroom peppercorn, portobello mushroom sauce, or alfredo sauce which I assume goes over pasta); no soups or chili; Potato cakes if cooked in a dedicated fryer, no fries, all cheese. Deluxe Baked Potato: butter, margarine/butter blend, sour cream, cheddar cheese sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon bits, chives. Shake mix or Mocha Chill, Marinara Sauce, Easy Eggs Deluxe Scrambled egg mix, Scrambled egg patty, Potato cakes, Seasoned tortilla chips.

Atlas Restaurant: 5513 Pershing, St. Louis 367-6800 - Terrific food, moderate prices. They take great care if you have gluten intolerance.

*Bahama Breeze: 550 Chesterfield Center, 63017 636-536-2862 Caesar, Breeze, Sun Ripened Tomato salads, Bahamian Conch Chowder, Bahamian Grilled Chicken on Greens (NO TAMARIND GLAZE, Warm Tiger Prawns & Spring Greens. Specialties: Serve with rice, not pasta: Blackened Chicken Breasts, Bahamian Grilled Kabob (NO Glaze), Calypso Shrimp, Pan Seared Salmon, Pomodoro. Sandwiches: No bread: Herb Roasted Chicken, Oak-Fired Angus Burger, Sun Drenched Portobello & Veg, Oak Grilled Chicken (NO Glaze). Seafood: Pan Seared Sea Scallops w Island Chimichurri, Fresh Fish in a bag, Tropical Tiger Prawns, Seafood Paella, Fresh Ahi Tuna. Chicken: Chicken Santiago, Breezewood Chicken (NO Glaze), Jamaican Grilled Chicken Breast, Marguarita Chicken. Beef & Pork: Oak Grilled Pork Chops (NO glaze), Center Cut Filet Mignon, Wood Fired NY Strip Steak. Desserts: Tropical Tower, Chocolate Island. Island Rice, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Red Beans. 12/05 *I emailed them re: their GF menu and they indicated that they did not have one. I have no idea who send me the information above. I have eaten there with no problems, BUT I had to 'alert' you about their reply. They added: "We are working on developing more allergen-free menu selections, including gluten-free items, for guests with your family's needs" I asked them to send me their menu when it is available. Marian 5/06 In addition, a member of stlouisalerts wrote: 'I went there about a month ago and had a fabulous shrimp dinner. The waitress that was there was familiar with celiac diseae because one of their wait staff has it. That particular waitress was not on duty, but apparently has informed several of the wait staff about what is and is not okay on their menu. 5/06

Bandana’s: Several locations - Their BBQ sauce is GF. The turkey is GF as is their slaw and green beans. The French fries are GF (HOWEVER, check to make sure that they are cooked in a dedicated fryer!) and if you can get the baked beans before the pork is added, they are GF. Unfortunately, they add wheat starch to the pork and ribs. 2/06

Big Sky Cafe, 47 Old Orchard, Webster Groves 962-5757 - "I called in advance and explained my situation and they were happy to help. Joyce Deneal, hostess-manager extremely helpful. When we got there, she made sure to let us know how nothing was a problem and they have identified which foods would be good and which would not work, plus they could leave sauce or breading off anything and make it work. She said they even had a meeting with the chefs that afternoon (she had marked a note in the computer about celiac with our reservation) and they had some suggestions. The server knew so much! The meal was fantastic and we will definitely be back. It’s a terrific place!"

Blue Water Grill: 343 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood 821-5757 - "I had a fantastic experience at the Blue Water Grill in Kirkwood. I called ahead and they marked our reservation. (I have to thank these boards for teaching me to call ahead). The server was very knowledgeable and asked the chef about all the menu items. Pretty much all of their fish dishes are gluten free, they had five desserts that are gluten free and many of the side dishes. Some of their soups are gluten free also. It seemed like most of the red meat had some kind of
seasoning on it that was not gluten free but I knew I wanted fish so that didn't matter to me. The food was great. It is a bit expensive but we had such a relaxing experience I will be back soon. I know someone on these boards mentioned Big Sky and I know they are owned by the same people".
