I eat Corn Thins, made by Real Foods, practically every single day --
to me, they are the greatest things since sliced bread -- literally!
They aren't bread, of course, but they are ultimately portable, tasty
and seem to be very safe. I know that Corn Thins have come up a few
times on the Listserv, but not in some time.

I've been trying to make sure that I personally research any food or
drug that I consume every day, so I wrote to Real Foods about their
products.

I thought their detailed response might be of interest to other list
members. They are produced in Australia, but are available at many
health food stores other countries (including the U.S.), and also
from a number of online GF food purveyors. I have nothing to do with
the company -- this is just one product that happens to save my
sanity.

>Dear Suzanne,

>Thank you for your e-mail.

>Real Foods have no wheat or wheat based products on site. Our corn
>is provided from a specialist factory which handles only corn and we
>have a signed specification from each vendor guaranteeing that the
>corn is gluten free. Please note however, that we do not have full
>control of the food chain from farmer to manufacturer. We have made
>it clear to our grain suppliers of the necessity to provide us with
>clean pure product, free of wheat.
>
>We also do not add any flavouring or seasonings to our Corn Thins
>and as previously stated, no wheat or wheat products are kept on
>site.
>
>Real Foods manufactures a product (currently only available in
>Australia), called Rye & Caraway Corn Thins. As you would be aware,
>rye contains gluten (albeit a small amount). Real Foods have
>implemented a strict manufacturing and clean down regime which we
>initiate each time this product is made. Production staff are not
>permitted to commence manufacturing new product until the clean down
>program has been completed, inspected and verified by the Quality
>department as satisfactory (through protein swabbing). We have
>tested other product which has been manufactured at the same time
>(but on another production line) as the Rye & Caraway and have found
>no evidence of air borne cross contamination, this has been verified
>through independent laboratory testing.
>
>Please be assured that all efforts are made to minimise the chance
>of cross contamination and I hope the above information about our
>products and manufacturing procedures may be of help to you in
>making an informed choice as to whether you wish to consume our
>products.

>Kind regards,
