On Monday, a person posted information to this list about the Italian
Coeliac Society and their Eating out Project.

"Since we are talking a lot about restaurants, I wanted to tell you
something about the Eating Out Project of the Italian Coeliac Society. I
think it is a great thing, and I am not aware of a similar project in other
countries. It would be great if it could spread everywhere."...... from a
member in Germany.

It is a great thing, and a similar project is available here in the United
States.

The Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP), facilitates a
relationship between individuals with celiac disease and other forms of
gluten intolerance, and restaurants. The relationship builds a win-win
opportunity for restaurants to provide service to people following a
gluten-free diet, and to gain increased patronage. Participating restaurants
are able to provide gluten-free meals from their regular meals. GFRAP is a
program of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America.

Each participating restaurant is provided with specially designed resources,
which aid the restaurant in being able to provide gluten-free dining
experiences. The materials include gluten-free dietary information,
guidelines for managing an allergen-controlled kitchen environment and staff
training information. Restaurants choose the level of GFRAP participation.

There are one star, two stars and three stars on the logo shown on the front
of the restaurant, and the GFRAP website to designate which level of
participation the restaurant has chosen. Membership in this program can be
renewed annually, providing the restaurant maintains their good standing in
serving their gluten intolerant diners.

We as diners can go to the GFRAP website to find cities all across the US.
We can also look for the identifiable logo on the front of the restaurant.
