The human digestive system most closely resembles
that of a carnivour - we are meant to eat meat.

And as cave men we did. At some point meat was
not plentiful and we chewed on some vegetation. We
probably hated it, but it filled our gut and we
embraced it into our diet. Then we noticed that the
vegetation on the sunny side of the hill was better
than the vegetation on the other side of the hill. And
so it began: we started to develop and adapt crops to
our taste and evolve our anatomy to tolerate being an
omnivour. More plentiful, reliable food freed our
minds from the daily grind of kill-to-eat and allowed
it to give birth to civilization.

But you can never fully fool mother nature. Our
system is still basically that of an omnivour and as
a result we are ALL allergic to crops, some more than
others, some more severelly than others. But for the
overwhelming majority of us, the human body has
evolved to easily tolerate and even thive on our
omnivour diet.

     SO WHAT !?!?!?

So, don't be surprised if you take 100 people,
test them for 'sensitivity' to grains and find most if
not all, sensitive! BUT THAT AIN'T CELIAC! And it does
not mean that 3.5 of the 4 BILLION people on this
earth should stop eating wheat - in many cases, the
only thing standing betweem and death by starvation.

The only group doing stool tests is testing for
gluten sensitivity. The group's literature CLEARLY
states that a positive test for gluten sensitivity
does not imply the patient has celiac or that he/she
EVER WILL! So, 'gluten sensitivity' is more likelly a
wheat allergy or some other grain allergy. AND THAT
AIN'T CELIAC EITHER!

In an allergic reaction histimines attack the
allergen, in celiac the body attacks itself - an
auto-immune response.

People can stool-test themselves to their hearts
content and belive what they want from the results.
But that amounts to 'faith-based', 'testimonial-based'
medicine.

Non-peer reviewed tests, of unknown efficacy are
not reimbursed by insurance. Furthermore, recent
research is showing that untreated celiac in children
may lead to diabetes Type I. So it's a good idea to
test your diagnosed celiac child for diabetes at
his/her annual physical. But, since stool testing for
celiac is recognized by insurance your doctor could
show no basis for ordering a diabetes test covered by
insuranse - you'd have to pay for it out of pocket.

As I close this little sermonette, I am reminded
of the Monty Python Flying Circuis comedy skit of a
building that only existed as long as the tenants
believed it did! As soon as someone started to wander,
the building started to fade and the rest of the
tenants would rush in and shore up the faith of the
doubter so as to keep the building standing!

I can't guarantee that this is my last post on
stool testing but I sincerely intend it to be.

Regards ...
