Dear Listmates,

Thanks to Carolyn, Vicki, Sonia, and Elaine for responding with some
helpful information regarding shopping and eating in San Juan Capistrano
and Bakersfield. Hope this helps someone else, too.

SJC:

Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Wild Oats are all in the vicinity. Trader
Joes is in San Clemente and Laguna Niguel. Wild Oats is in Laguna
Beach. These are all places where you can purchase pasta, crackers, and
cereal.

In and Out Burger is also throughout Southern California. Their fries,
shakes, and protein burgers (burger is wrapped in lettuce) are all GF.

BAKERSFIELD:

Elaine has found several restaurants in Bakersfield to be CD-friendly.
"...I always take my own bread and salad dressing, though. There are
several Wendy's there (check the phone books when you get there or I can
give them to you if you want addresses ahead of time). and their
hamburgers are GF, as well as their chili and specialty salads. You
take a chance on their fries as they don't have a dedicated fryer for
them. Also, their salad bar if you use your own salad dressing.

Another good choice for eating is Mexicali (2 of them). We have eaten
several times at the one on 18th & S and I haven't had any problems.
Also, there are 2 Marie Callendar's there. I usually get their roasted
turkey with roasted red peppers (delicious) sans bread - again, take your
own and use it if you like. One is in E. Bksfld on Oswell St. and the
other one is on California Ave just off of Rt. 99. Also, an El Torito,
further down CA Ave from Marie Callendar's. No problems there, either.
Also, Carl Jr's hamburgers are GF and they have other items that are
obviously GF like the baked potato. ALSO, there's a Trader Joe's where
you can get many GF- friendly items. I also shop at a health food store
there called Cone's (Oak St.). Lots of GF items there (frozen items,
too, that can be microwaved in the motel room)."
