Thanks so much to all of you who responded to my question about GF eating
at Golden Corral. I guess I feel safe enough to try it once. Some of you
asked for a summary so I'll post the replies and everyone will have to make
their own decision.
Thanks again so much,
Timia

--------------------------------------------------------
We do eat at Golden Corral. I called headquarters and talked to Mimi. She
was very helpful.
GF items:
Rotisserie Chicken
Roast Beef
Mashed Potatoes
Steamed Veggies
Ice Cream
Sherbert
We also eat the steak. I am not certain it is GF, but pretty sure. None of
us get sick on it.
There may be other items, but those are the ones I know for sure. We eat
there every Tues, because kids eat for 99 cents.
---------------------------------------------------------
I just got an email this morning from my celiac friend who ate the potato
salad at the Golden Corral last night. She eats it often and loves it.
She's very sensitive, so I'm confident it's safe.
I have gone to the Golden Corral in Ft. Wayne, Indiana - I eat the fresh
vegetables, and fruit, along with the baked potato. The meats I have tried
are the ones that are grilled or prepared with no extra's added to them.
So,far I have had no problems at all.
----------------------------------------------------------
I do eat there. I'm sure the baked potatoes are all right since they are
wrapped entirely in foil. I usually have the meat they are slicing (roast
beef or steak), the plain vegetables and salad/fruit items. I do know that
there is some risk of cross contamination, but there are times I'm out of
town and have no choice but to eat out or go hungry. I don't think my risk
at Golden Corral is any greater than the risk of trusting someone I don't
know in the kitchen to "do it right." I have "special ordered" for years
and years, and many times after requesting exactly what I need, find an
offending food item on my plate. So I find that I trust my own instincts
more than I trust other people.
-------------------------------------------------------
I eat there and haven't had problems with plain foods esp the meats.
----------------------------------------------------------
I live in Texas and frequently eat at the Golden Corral in Wichita Falls.
I usually eat steak and baked potato. I get the dinner salad plain. I
used to bring my salad dressing but recently I have been eating the regular
Ranch dressing with no ill effects. Bringing my own was OK with the
management.
Occasionally, I will eat the buffet. I eat such things as carrots, raw
vegetables, cabbage, and other types of fruits and vegetables that I can
identify what is in them or how they were cooked. I simply stay away from
things such as macaroni and cheese and spaghetti.
I eat either the ice cream or the sherbet. I don't add toppings. The
Jell-O is OK but I stay away from the other desserts such as pie and
pudding.
I avoid any of the breads.
--------------------------------------------------------
I eat there about once every two weeks. I only have the baked potato with
their grated cheese off the buffet. Then I ask for the individual margarine
(not honey butter) that comes just like the honey butter tiny tubs. They
always have to go get some for me.
Then I have a salad. On the salad I'll eat: grated eggs, carrots, the
tomatos, cheese and top it with cottage cheese. I haven't asked about
their dressings as I'm content with the cottage cheese with pepper
sprinkled on it.
I'm a chicken eatting out so I don't try anything else. I haven't gotten
sick but I look carefully at everything to see if someone has contaminated
the stuff I want to eat.
Hope this helps. I would also eat any of the fresh fruits, canned
peaches, pears, pineapple, as usual, the "safe" things.

We have not checked specifically; however, my husband eats mashed or baked
potatoes, plain vegetables, steak, chicken (roasted), turkey ham and roast
beef with no reaction. He sticks to green salads and fruit. Soft-serve
(vanilla) is fine, also. I need to add, his stomach is very sensitive,
gluten causes a reaction in as little as fifteen minutes. We think it is a
wonderful place to eat because I get to eat fun things also.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I eat at Golden Corral. Safe items include salad, fresh fruit, grilled
steak, new potatoes, baked potatoes, corn, green beans, lima beans, brussel
sprouts, etc. Avoid the roast; okra gumbo, obvious pasta and rolls,
soups... I used to take my own salad dressing, margarine, sour cream,
ketchup, and/or steak sauce. But nowadays, I just use their's. Can't
vouch whether it is safe or not.....
----------------------------------------------------------------
I am in Lexington, NC and I go to the kids night here every Tuesday with my
kids. I either stick to hamburger steak and plain baked potatoes, or I eat
the buffet. If I eat off the bar, I get a salad, all natural foods are
fine you know. Then my meat I eat a steak ours have it on the bar every
day now, and steak is best with nothing on it anyway. I then eat a bake
potatoes off of the bar, and sometimes corn. I have not had any problems
with these but do not know for sure if they are totally gluten free. But
when I digest gluten I usually know it.

Hi, I eat there occasionally. Basically, you pay your money and you take
your chances. Do not eat their salad dressing. Take your own. Do not eat
the bourbon chicken as it is has flour in it. I love it but when I eat it,
I pay for it later on. The meats that they slice for you are usually okay.
The green beans are okay. I eat their roasted chicken but I peel off the
skin. Their fruit section is usually okay, but I can't do the melons
because of their mold content. If you go for breakfast you can have the
gentleman make your eggs/omelet to your specifications. Basically there is
entirely too much contamination of foods there to not be exposed somewhat
to flour, but I get plenty to eat there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I tried the dinner buffet once - boom! I tried the breakfast buffet once
-boom! (Don't eat the buffet!) My wife likes to go there for dinner
occasionally, so when we go, I order the ground beef, leaving off
everything; also a baked potato with butter. It also comes with a salad
that the server fixes. When I tell her my requirements for the salad, she
usually gives me a plate so that I can help myself. I bring my own
dressing. I have never had a problem with a non-buffet dinner there in
about 8 tries.
