I received over a dozen responses, which with the exception of one,
generally approved either calcium citrate or calcium carbonate, depending on
which was most agreeable to the person taking it. All were in agreement that
vitamin D was essential with the supplement chosen and several pointed out
that carbonated beverages were no-nos. (Calcium binds to the phosphorous and
is lost to the body)

The tenor of the responses was captured best in one particular response which
I have taken the liberty to include in this summary.

Calcium carbonate contains the greatest amount of calcium per weight of all
of the calcium products but also has the highest potential for binding
phosphorus in the diet which is not always desireable. Calcium citrate on
the other hand does not require stomach acid to be absorbed and therefore is
best for the elderly (old geezers) who often have less stomach acid
secretion. You may in fact get a greater percentage of calcium absorbed
with this product.

Many thanks to all those who provided thoughtful replies.
