I cold have sworn when I started buying Luna bars that they said "gluten 
free" and had only rice for grain.  One day I was looking at the list of 
ingredients and saw rolled oats, then looked for the "gluten free" label and 
didn't find it.  Two people have said they have no reaction to them, and I 
thought I had none, but now I have to wonder as I wasn't expecting a 
reaction.  Maybe they really did change the formula and I caught it soon 
afterward and quit them.  Anyway, I really do think I have had weird 
reactions to Lara bars, which I was beginning to suspect was from pesticides 
in the cheap dates in them, though I wouldn't put it past the 
processors/dealers to add flour.
    Six people said Lara bars never bothered them. Various people 
recommended other bars or had other interesting comments.  I'll save my 
weird neurological reactions till later.  Someone said she'd looked them up 
for herself, and they were called "Visual migraines".   Thanks for all your

The Luna Bars are mostly soy protein isolate (which for me is reason enough 
to avoid them!) and many of their bars have wheat.  Lara bars are the ones 
that are mashed up dates, nuts and spices.  I have never had a problem with 
those.

I love KIND bars made in Australia--but available in many U.S. grocery
stores and online at www.amazon.com. They are delicious and organic and
never make me feel weird. They don't taste like nasty energy bars (hate
that taste!), but the protein is primarily from various nuts. They have
fruit/nut varieties and a chocolate/peanut/sesame that I LOVE!  I got
some for a road trip last week and my family loved them. They don't push
your sugar high which is very important to me--yet I'd really like to
eat one of these as much as a Snicker bar and KIND bars are so much
healthier.

I have good luck with Organic Food Bars and Vega bars, both of which use 
natural ingredients.

Were you thinking of Larabars?  Their wesite still says they are gluten 
free, http://www.larabar.com/food/about-larabar (we don't eat them however, 
because we don't like the taste.  Think Thin bars are also gluten free.

Luna bars. I don't like them. I get Kind bars.

The only bars I now eat are the Lara Bars which I look for on sale at the 
food co-op.

      I have had problems with a lot of bars regardless of whether they are 
supposed to be  gluten free or not.  the only ones that i have not had a 
problem with are the KIND bars. Everything else just made stomach hurt and 
made me feel sluggish, not the "energy" experience i was looking for!


I have always avoided Luna bars. I never felt they were safe. After bein 
gluten free for 29 years I have developed a kind of 6th sense that is not 
scientific but works for me.
There are a lot of different flavors each of which has different 
ingredients. The oats are not gluten free. Some contain malt.  The date ones 
have wheat grass which I would not trust. And I think you made a very good 
point about the dates being coated by something to make the processing 
easier.

I find that any of the bars that are mostly fruit and are sweet do not agree
with me.  I don't have a gluten attack, but I get bloating and a sugar buzz.
I also have fructose intolerance, which not many people are aware of.  If I
eat a Lara Bar, it is like eating a candy bar on an empty stomach.  I feel
like I am getting the shakes.  My body requires protein before I can eat
something that sweet.  I do better with a bag of nuts, and a few dates or
dried figs.These are just suggestions for you to think about, but I have 
found other
things bother me and it is not always gluten.

My daughter absolutely has terrible trouble with Lara bars and we
stopped purchasing them as we weren't sure either about which
ingredients were bothering her...dairy can be stressful for her as well
but she tolerates the GF Mac and cheese so we didn't think anything
about Lara bars until she had trouble. She has had them off and on for
over a year and always has a reaction.

re Lara bars:  I've tried them several times through the past few years and 
couldn't figure out why I didn't feel good after eating them so I've opted 
not to indulge in them.
