Hi everyone,

I am taking my first trip to the UK since I was diagnosed with Celiac - and
was looking forward to it after reading posts on this list and talking to
family who informed me that there is a greater awareness of gluten
intolerance and celiac.

My first discovery upon arriving was that my favourite crisps (chips - Hula
Hoops made by KP Foods UK (www.hulahoops.co.uk) 0800 526 078) were labelled
GLUTEN FREE. I have since discovered that they contain a flavour enhancer
labelled only as E621, which is in fact Monosodium Glutamate. It was my
understanding that MSG was not Gluten Free. Can someone clarify this for
me? Also, how about monopotasium glutamate? Is that in the same category?

Also - this was an important lesson for me, that manufacturers hide
ingredients under chemical or numerical names. I am attempting to contact
KP but have been unsuccesful so far.
