On July 13, l998 Rosalie asked about having umbilical cord blood tested, I
presume, for celiac....It is possible to save and test cord blood. At the
Defeat Autism Now! Conference in San Diego in September, l997 it was suggested
by one of the DAN! doctors that cord blood be saved to be tested against the
vaccines currently in use. There are studies that indicate vaccines may be
causing serious problems in SOME children with immune systems that may be too
fragile or immature to handle them. Case in point....Andrew Wakefield,
British pediatric gastroenterologist, et al., published an article in THE
LANCET, Vol 351 February 28, 1998, Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-
specific colitis and pervasive developmental disorder in children. Just
what you wanted....something else to be concerned about! Dr. Wakefield will
be speaking at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans this week on Saturday,
July 25th for any of you close who are interested. There will be several
other researchers presenting at this conference. For more information
contact Janet Beckwith, Baton Rouge, (504) 752-9341 or Linda Duckworth-
Landry, New Orleans, (504) 733-6010. They ask you to reserve seating. The
conference is free. They do ask for donations.
