My son Peter (15 months) had terrible constipation and irritability (probably
from intestinal pain) when we put him on a GF diet. He responded
wonderfully, and we are keeping him on the diet despite the lack of a
professional diagnosis. Eventually, we will want to be sure that he is
celiac. But the diet is in no way harmful and appears to help him greatly.
I think after your partner's testing, she should return to the diet no
matter what the results are. If it makes her feel better, then it's worth
it. It's true that constipation and cramping are lesser-known symptoms of CD
-- our pediatric GI also pooh-poohed the diagnosis. We had to try the diet
on our own ... and we're SO glad we did!
